A key Philadelphia Flyers forward has revealed why he missed time in the playoffs.
Owen Tippett said he sustained an internal bleeding issue that prevented him from suiting up for the team's second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes, per a team release on Tuesday.
The ailment occurred during the Flyers' first-round series win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Tippett said in the statement that he is "making progress and feeling better every day."
"Despite being cleared to travel and skate with the team at certain practices, things did not progress at a pace that I hoped for or would allow me to safely continue playing," he said.
The 27-year-old added that he expects to be fully recovered in time for training camp in September.
Tippett, of Peterborough, Ont., played 81 regular-season games for Philadelphia, tallying 28 goals and 23 assists. He had one goal and one assist in six games against the Penguins.
With Tippett sidelined, the Flyers were swept by the Hurricanes in Round 2.
