Carolina Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake has been fined $2,358.94 — the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement — by the NHL's department of player safety for slashing Anaheim Ducks defenceman Jacob Trouba.
The incident occurred during the second period of Carolina’s game against Anaheim on Thursday night.
Blake was assessed a minor penalty for slashing after striking Trouba on the hands as the two battled for position along the boards.
The fine amount is based on Blake’s salary and the money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Blake, 22, is in his rookie NHL season after signing with the Hurricanes last spring. The son of former NHLer Jason Blake has a goal and four points through four games this season.
The Hurricanes are scheduled to continue their road trip Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings.
