Chargers draft QB named Easton Stick; hockey fans rejoice

There are plenty of hockey guys in the NFL. For example, J.J. Watt has some serious puck skills and everybody knows Jalen Ramsey could make a full-time career change and join an NHL team whenever he wants.

The Los Angeles Chargers, however, took things to another level over the weekend by drafting a quarterback whose namesake is a literal piece of hockey equipment — quarterback Easton Stick out of North Dakota State.

It was a stealth selection by the Chargers, as the team had not drafted a quarterback since taking Brad Sorensen in the seventh round of the 2013 draft. Word is the Chargers are hoping Stick can develop some synergy with his new teammates at training camp.

Stick was taken with the 28th pick in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and by all accounts has some upside. That, of course, is irrelevant to hockey fans who could only focus on his name.
