Canada’s Milos Raonic retires from Rotterdam quarterfinal with injury

Canada’s Milos Raonic retired from his quarterfinal against Jannik Sinner and then walked off the court gingerly after shaking hands with his opponent on Friday at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Raonic lost the first set 7-6 (4) and was tied at 1-1 in the second set when his match against the top seed and 2024 Australian Open champ ended.

It marked the second tournament in a row to open 2024 in which Raonic has retired from a match. He exited his first-round match at the Australian Open with an apparent hip issue after splitting the first two sets and falling behind 2-0 in the third set against No. 10 seed Alex de Minaur.

The 33-year-old Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., missed the better part of two seasons with lower-body injuries before returning to the tour last June.

Raonic reached a Canadian-best ranking of No. 3 in the world in 2016, months after making the final at Wimbledon.
