Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna has responded to a claim from Carlos Correa that he showed up the star shortstop.
“If I did something wrong I apologize because that wasn’t my intention,” Osuna said on Friday.
Correa made the comments following Thursday’s 7-4 loss to the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
With two outs in the ninth inning, Osuna induced a comebacker to the mound from Correa and then held the ball for an extended period before tossing it to first base to end the game. Correa, while jogging lightly down the first base line, could be seen looking over at Osuna as the pitcher held the ball.
“I don’t know what’s so special about that: throwing me a 3-2 cutter; showing me up,” Correa said afterward. “I go home, relax. Next time I face him, he better not give up a homer.”
Osuna, who has 22 saves and a 2.06 ERA this season, was named an American League all-star on Friday, as he was among the seven replacement players selected to the team.
