Blue Jays unsure of starter for Thursday’s game vs. Red Sox

Just over 12 hours before Thursday’s series finale against the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays don’t know who their starting pitcher will be.

The reason? Thomas Pannone, who was originally scheduled to start, had his flight to Boston from triple-A Buffalo cancelled due to inclement weather. If his next flight prevents him from arriving in Boston ahead of Thursday’s scheduled first pitch at 1:05 p.m. ET, Pannone would be forced to miss the game.

According to manager Charlie Montoyo, if Pannone is unable to go the Jays will approach Thursday’s contest as a bullpen day. The Blue Jays have used David Phelps, Daniel Hudson and Derek Law as openers this season.

Pannone has primarily appeared out of the bullpen in 24 games this season, registering a 2-3 record and 6.14 ERA over that span.

Montoyo is scheduled to meet the media two hours before first pitch and will likely announce the game’s starter then.
