Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis hit his 50th home run in the eighth inning of the Orioles’ 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night at the Rogers Centre.
Orioles fan Steve Houff paid the Blue Jays fan that caught the homer $100 for the ball so that he could return it to Davis, according to Orioles beat writer Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun.
The 27-year-old slugger is having a career year and leads the majors in long balls. Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers is second with 43, while Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion is third with 36.
Davis gave Houff, a native of Maryland, a bat and an autographed ball as a gesture of appreciation and Houff’s friends he attended the game with were given signed baseballs.
