Full Blue Jays rebuild may not sit well with fans

A division title, blockbuster trades, dramatic walk-off victories and back-to-back ALCS appearances. It’s safe to say the past two years have been a fun ride for Toronto Blue Jays fans.

But after a 2-11 start to the 2017 season and an aging core, Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins have to at least be considering moving some of their assets.

What’s complicated the decision is that Toronto has pulled itself back into the playoff picture, sitting four games back of a wild-card entering play Saturday.

If the Blue Jays were to pull the trigger and move the likes of Marco Estrada, J.A. Happ or even Josh Donaldson, they may risk angering a fan base that waited 22 years to see a contending team take the field. After a brief two-year period of success, a full rebuild might be a tough pill for fans to swallow.
