Marcus Stroman named Blue Jays’ Roberto Clemente Award nominee

Pitcher Marcus Stroman is the Toronto Blue Jays‘ nominee for the 2017 Roberto Clemente Award.

The award is given each year to the player who best demonstrates extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

The league-wide winner of the Roberto Clemente Award will be announced during the 2017 World Series. The voting panel includes MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, representatives from MLB-affiliated networks and MLB Advanced Media, and Vera Clemente, the wife of the late Roberto. Fans will also be able to cast their vote once the regular season ends.

Stroman has enjoyed a strong season, pitching to an ERA of 3.08, good for fourth-best in the American League. He also ranks fifth in the AL in innings pitched at 172.1.
