Report: Blue Jays agree to deal with first-round pick Alek Manoah

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a deal with 2019 first-round pick Alek Manoah according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

Heyman reports that the Blue Jays offered Manoah $4,547,500, the maximum draft slot value for the 11th-overall pick. The Blue Jays have a total draft bonus pool of $8,463,300 according to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.

The right-hander out of West Virginia split his first two college seasons between the starting rotation and bullpen but emerged as a legitimate starter last summer in the Cape Cod League. In his first season as a starter, he posted a 2.08 ERA with 144 strikeouts compared to just 27 walks in 108.1 innings.
