Report: Rangers sign RHP Edinson Volquez to one-year, $2 million deal

The Texas Rangers have signed right-hander Edinson Volquez to a one-year, $2 million contract, according to the MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

Heyman added that the deal includes incentives that could see Volquez earn an additional $5 million.

Volquez — who is coming off an underwhelming season with the Miami Marlins in which he pitched to a 4-8 record and 4.19 ERA — was added to the Rangers’ 40-man roster on Nov. 20 after signing a minor-league contract with the club last spring.

The 35-year-old former all-star didn’t pitch last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery owns a career record of 93-87 and won the World Series with the Kansas City Royals in 2015.

The veteran originally broke into the big leagues with Texas, pitching for the organization in his first three professional seasons.
