Rumours continue to swirl about the American League-leading Boston Red Sox finding a new third baseman.
According to a report from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox are “moving closer” to acquiring Todd Frazier from the rebuilding Chicago White Sox.
Frazier, 31, is in his second season with the White Sox after spending the first five seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Reds. The two-time all-star hit 40 home runs last year and has 16 so far this season. He is slashing .210/.330/.438 and has a 1.9 WAR.
If traded, Frazier would join a list of traded assets that includes Chris Sale, Adam Eaton and Jose Quintana as the White Sox continue to strip down and acquire prospects.

The Red Sox parted ways with third baseman Pablo Sandoval last week after the $95-million man was designated for assignment. The 30-year-old suited up for just 32 games in Boston this season and recorded a .269 on-base percentage.
Deven Marrero has spent some time at third base to fill the void and super-utility man Brock Holt returned from the disabled list on Sunday, filling in at the hot corner.
The Rex Sox top prospect, ranked No. 6 in all of baseball according to Baseball America, happens to be a third-baseman. Rafael Devers is putting together a strong season in the minor leagues.
He slashed .300/.369/.575 with 18 home runs in double-A before he was promoted to triple-A, where he collected four hits in his debut on Saturday.
