Raptors’ DeRozan remains second among East guards in all-star voting

The NBA announced their second wave of fan voting results on Thursday afternoon.

In the biggest change since the last voting results were released two weeks ago, Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has overtaken Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo as the top vote-getter in the league, amassing over 1.6 million votes (and counting).

In the West, Stephen Curry passed teammate Kevin Durant as the conference’s leading vote-getter with 1.37 million votes. Warriors teammate Draymond Green passed New Orleans big man DeMarcus Cousins for the third forward spot.

Toronto Raptors star DeMar DeRozan, poised to compete in his fourth all-star game in the last five years (injuries kept him out of the 2015 exhibition), remains second among East guards with 537,168 votes, trailing — by a sizeable margin — to only Kyrie Irving, who received more than 1.3 million votes. DeRozan has never started in an all-star game before.

With all-star starting lineups consisting of the top three forwards and top two guards, based on the fan vote results the starting five for each conference would look like this:

EAST
PG – Kyrie Irving
SG – DeMar DeRozan
SF – Giannis Antetokounmpo
PF – LeBron James
C – Joel Embiid

WEST
PG – Steph Curry
SG – James Harden
SF – Kevin Durant
PF – Draymond Green
C – Anthony Davis

Starters will be based on a combination of fan, player, and media votes, and will be announced on Jan. 18.

However, in a new twist for the NBA, one captain from each conference will select the remaining all-star rosters, begging the question: Who will be the NBA’s Phil Kessel?

Full all-star rosters will be revealed on Jan. 25. Here are the complete results from the second return of fan voting:
