Elks benching Harris in favour of Cornelius, Prukop against Blue Bombers

The Edmonton Elks are going with Taylor Cornelius and Dakota Prukop at quarterback in favour of starter Trevor Harris for Friday’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Head coach Jamie Elizondo confirmed the news after practice on Monday stating that Harris is not dealing with an injury. He also added that the teams need more out of the quarterback position and that playing both Cornelius and Prukop allow the team to attack differently on offence.

The Elks sit last in the CFL’s West Division with a 2-6 record and have lost their last four games. Their last win came on Labour Day against the Calgary Stampeders.

In his return from a neck injury, Harris struggled in Edmonton’s 30-3 loss to Winnipeg going 9-of-22 for 87 yards before being pulled in favour of Cornelius. In six games this season, Harris has thrown for 1,568 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Cornelius, who has appeared in all eight games, has completed 63 per cent of his passes for 858 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions while adding another 114 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
