MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes signed defensive back Jerald Brown on Saturday, a day after releasing him, and inked import linebacker Steve Octavien. Both signed two-year contracts.

Brown bounced back from an injury last season to post 52 defensive tackles and a pair of interceptions. The 32-year-old who was a CFL all-star in 2010 is entering a fifth season with the Alouettes.

"We are happy Jerald has decided to extend his stay with our team," general manager Jim Popp said in a statement. "Jerald is versatile and can play all positions on the back end. He brings a lot of self-confidence and leadership to our secondary."

Octavien was with four NFL teams over three seasons. The 28-year-old Nebraska product played for Omaha in the UFL last season.
