The NFL has released a statement that takes a shot at the Players Association for “shaming” the alleged victim in the Ezekiel Elliott domestic abuse case.
The statement comes after the publishing of a report based on the NFL’s 160-page investigation shows the victim raising the idea of blackmailing Elliott with compromising video footage.
Elliott’s appeal reportedly plans to question the victim’s credibility.
[blockquote]…with Thompson being cited as the NFL’s only firsthand witness to the events she is alleging, a source close to Elliott said his lawyers and the NFLPA have seized upon the exchange to question aspects of motive and credibility in an appeal filed on Tuesday.[/blockquote]
The NFLPA responded shortly after with a strongly worded statement denying the accusations made by the league and calling its behaviour “stooping to new lows.”
Elliott was suspended six games due to the NFL’s conclusion that the 2016 rushing leader injured his former girlfriend in three separate incidents last summer. Elliott’s appeal will be heard by arbiter Harold Henderson.
