The accolades keep coming for Calgary Flames prospect and Everett Silvertips goalie Dustin Wolf.
Fresh off being named the Western Hockey League’s goaltender of the year last month, the seventh-round pick (214th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft captured the CHL Goaltender of the Year Award on Monday.
“I want to thank the CHL for the Goaltender of the Year Award, it’s a really big honour,” Wolf said in a press release.
“I’d like to thank the coaching staff and everybody out in Everett. Additionally, our goalie coach James Jensen, for the continuous support throughout the season. I’d also like to thank my parents for the awesome support they give me each and every day, and finally I’d like to thank the fans for all the support they give us each and every game. It’s a real pleasure playing out in Everett and I hope to see you guys next season.”
The 19-year-old from Tustin, Calif., led all CHL goaltenders with a 1.88 goals-against-average, .935 save percentage and nine shutout victories across 46 games before the 2019-20 season was shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wolf also finished second in wins with a 34-10-2-0 record.
Ottawa Senators prospect Kevin Mandolese of the QMJHL’s Cape Breton Eagles and 2020 NHL Draft prospect Nico Daws of the OHL’s Guelph Storm were also finalists.
The honour means a Silvertips goalie has captured the award for the third time in the past five years, as Wolf joins former teammate and Philadephia Flyers netminder Carter Hart, who took home the trophy in 2016 and 2018.
In addition to the major-junior recognition, Wolf was also named USA Hockey’s Goaltender of the Year after competing for the national team at the 2020 world juniors.
The undersized netminder — who clocks in at six-feet and 165 pounds — signed an entry-level deal with the Flames last month.
