QMJHL Roundup: Sea Dogs use balanced attack to down Titan

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Marek Zachar scored three goals and added three assists on Friday night and the Sherbrooke Phoenix beat the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 7-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Anderson MacDonald struck twice with Yaroslav Alexeyev and Thomas Gregoire adding the others for Sherbrooke (9-9-3), which snapped a three-game skid.

Yan Aucoin, Eric Leger and Simon Chevrier supplied the offence for the Drakkar (6-11-3).

Justin Blachette stopped 45 shots for the win in net as Antoine Samuel turned away 25-of-31 shots in defeat.

The Phoenix were scoreless on five power plays and Baie-Comeau went 0 for 3.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Alexis D’Aoust scored five times as the Cataractes snapped a four-game skid with a victory over Gatineau.

Justin Bernier had the other for Shawnigan (14-6-0) while Samuel Girard tacked on four assists and William Gignac had three helpers. Mikhail Denisov made 21 saves.

Austin Eastman and Yakov Trenin found the back of the net for the Olympiques (8-12-2), who had a three-game winning streak ended. Mathieu Bellemare took the loss by turning aside 7-of-11 shots in 18:43. Mark Grametbauer stopped 20 shots in relief.

MOOSEHEADS 5 WILDCATS 1

MONCTON, N.B. — Ben Higgins scored a hat trick as Halifax downed the Wildcats for its fourth-straight win.

Arnaud Durandeau and Maxime Fortier also chipped in for Halifax (12-10-0). Alexis Gravel made 35 saves.

Manuel Wiederer had a power-play goal in the second for the Wildcats (8-14-0) while Matthew Waite kicked out 23-of-27 shots.

ISLANDERS 5 SCREAMING EAGLES 4 (OT)

SYDNEY, N.S. — Kameron Kielly scored twice, including the overtime winner, and added an assist to lead Charlottetown over the Screaming Eagles.

Ketih Getson, Jake Coughler and Saku Vesterinen also found the back of the net for the Islanders (13-9-1). Matthew Welsh made 24 saves.

Leon Gawanke, Giovanni Fiore, Drake Batherson and Jordan Ty Fournier supplied the offence for Cape Breton (10-11-2). Massimo Carozza tacked on three helpers and Kyle Jessiman turned aside 29 shots.

SEA DOGS 6 TITAN 3

BATHURST, N.B. — Cedric Pare had a goal and two assists as Saint John got past the Titan.

Ottawa Senators prospect Thomas Chabot, Matthew Highmore and Samuel Dove-McFalls all had a goal and an assist for the Sea Dogs (14-6-2). Samuel Leblanc and Mathieu Joseph also scored while Alex D’Orio stopped 27 shots.

Christophe Boivin, Dawson Theede and Felix Boivin found the back of the net for Acadie-Bathurst (9-11-2). Francis Lavallee turned aside 18-of-21 shots through 40 minutes and took the loss. Reilly Pickard started but was pulled after allowing three goals on 15 shots.

TIGRES 3 REMPARTS 2

QUEBEC CITY — Alexandre Goulet scored the winner early in the third period as Victoriaville edged the Remparts.

Antoine Lessard and Felix Lauzon had the others for the Tigres (11-10-2) while James Povall turned away 25 shots.

Dmitry Buynitskiy and Philipp Kurashev, on the power play, chipped in for Quebec (12-9-2). Callum Booth made 29 saves.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Alexander Katerinakis scored two goals and an assist while Alexandre Alain tacked on three helpers as Blainville-Boisbriand topped the Huskies.

Shaun Miller struck twice with Connor Bramwell and Yvan Mongo rounding out the attack for the Armada (15-6-2). Alexandre Alain had three assists and Francis Leclerc made 23 saves.

Jean-Christophe Beaudin had a goal and three assists for Rouyn-Noranda (15-4-3) with William Cyr, Mathieu Boucher, Antoine Waked and Alexandre Fortin also chipping in.

Charles-Antoine Poirier-Turcot took the loss in 9:54 of relief by turning aside 5-of-6 shots. Samuel Harvey started and stopped 17 shots.

VAL-D’OR, Que. — Alexis Pepin had a pair of goals and Dereck Baribeau stopped 35 shots as the Foreurs doubled up Rimouski.

Maxim Mizyurin and Adam Cheezo also scored for Val-d’Or (11-10-2).

Tyler Boland and Alex-Olivier Voyer had goals for the Oceanic (11-11-1) while Alexandre Lagace turned away 20-of-23 shots.
