WHL Roundup: Blichfield has 5 assists as Winterhawks crush Oil Kings

PORTLAND, Ore. — Joachim Blichfeld had five assists while Cody Glass scored twice and had two helpers as the Portland Winterhawks pounded the Edmonton Oil Kings 8-2 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.

Reece Newkirk, Mason Mannek, Michal Kvasnica, Jake Gricius, Cross Hanas and Ryan Hughes, with the winner, scored for the Winterhawks (5-2-1).

Trey Fix-Wolansky and Scott Atkinson netted goals for the Oil Kings (5-4-1).

Shane Farkas turned aside 28 shots for Portland. Boston Bilous combined with Dylan Myskiw for 23 saves for Edmonton.

The Winterhawks went 4 for 6 on the power play. The Oil Kings failed to capitalize on eight opportunities with the man advantage.

HURRICANES 4 PATS 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Ty Kolle scored twice and Reece Klassen turned aside 24 shots as Lethbridge defeated Regina.

Dylan Cozens notched the game-winning goal for the Hurricanes (3-3-1) at 15:11 of the second period. Jake Elmer also scored for Lethbridge. Riley Krane and Robbie Holmes scored for the Pats (1-6-0).

Max Paddock kicked out 29 shots for Regina.

THUNDERBIRDS 9 ROCKETS 6

KELOWNA, B.C. — Noah Philp scored four times and Liam Hughes made 27 saves as Seattle overpowered Kelowna.

Simon Kubicek’s marker at 13:32 of the second period stood as the game-winning goal for the Thunderbirds (4-1-1). He scored twice in the contest. Andrej Kukuca, Zack Andrusiak and Jaxan Kaluski also scored for the Thunderbirds.

Leif Mattson led the way for the Rockets (1-8-0) with two goals and two assists, while Nolan Foote, Kyle Crosbie, Conner Bruggen-Cate and Lassi Thomson added singles.

Roman Basran combined with James Porter for 28 saves for Kelowna.
