Craig Cunningham is in critical but stable condition, Arizona Coyotes coach Dave Tippett told reporters Monday.
The Tuscon Roadrunners captain collapsed on the ice prior to puck drop for an AHL game between the Roadrunners and Manitoba Moose Saturday night.
Cunningham was rushed to a Tuscon hospital, and the game was postponed. Out of respect for Cunningham, the Roadrunners have since postponed Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games against the San Diego Gulls as well.
“It was one of those real scary incidents,” Tippett said.
The Arizona Daily Star reported that medics worked on Cunningham, who was lying on his back, performing chest compressions before moving him from the ice surface.
Tippett said Monday that the club will not comment further on the matter out of respect for the Cunningham family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Craig and his family. We will provide a medical update once we receive more information,” Coyotes general manager John Chayka said in a statement Saturday night.
A number of NHL players have tweeted out support for the Trail, B.C., native and his family.
Cunningham, 26, was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. In 63 NHL games, he has three goals and eight points.
