Canadiens’ Alexei Emelin undergoes knee surgery

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Wednesday, the team announced.

Emelin suffered the injury in Buffalo during Montreal’s final game of the regular season. He missed the first four games of the Canadiens’ Round 1 series against the New York Rangers, but joined his team for Games 5 and 6, scoring once. The Canadiens were eliminated by the Rangers in six games.

Per the team, Emelin’s recovery time is estimated to be four to six weeks.

The veteran rearguard tallied two goals and eight assists in 76 games in 2016-17.
