Canadiens’ Brendan Gallagher leaves game vs. Hurricanes after collision

Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher left Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes with an upper-body injury and will not return.

The injury occurred late in the second period after a hit from Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal sent Gallagher flying into the knee of teammate Ben Chiarot, who was skating by. Gallagher was slow to get up and went straight to the Canadiens dressing room.

Gallagher hasn’t missed a game since the 2016-17 season — when a broken hand limited him to 64 games — but he did suffer a concussion during his rookie season in 2013.

The 27-year-old has 15 goals and 32 points in 40 games this season.
