Washington Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic has apologized for inappropriate and offensive comments that he says were made in a private conversation on Instagram but leaked Wednesday as a result of a hack.
Leipsic, 25, said in a statement posted to Twitter that he is committed to learning from the experience and becoming a better person by “taking time to determine how to move forward in an accountable, meaningful way.”

The comments made in a conversation on Instagram appeared to show the Winnipeg native making misogynistic and offensive remarks, including some directed at current and former teammates.
The NHL put out a release Wednesday evening stating that there is no place in the league for “such statements, attitudes and behavior, no matter the forum” and that the matter will be addressed with the clubs and players involved. The statement adds that Jack Rodewald, a forward with the Florida Panthers organization, was also involved in the group chat.
Leipsic has played four years in the NHL, with time also spent with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings.
