Capitals’ Ovechkin leaves practice with injury

Washington Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin was forced to leave team practice early on Tuesday after sustaining what’s being described as a minor upper-body injury.

Ovechkin, whose next game will be his 700th in a Washington Capitals uniform, is now questionable for Wednesday’s contest on the road against the New York Islanders.

The Capitals captain will reportedly travel with the team to Long Island.

“I’m hoping he’ll be in the lineup tomorrow,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz told the reporters after practice on Tuesday, saying that Ovechkin’s early exit from practice was a precautionary measure.

Ovechkin has nine goals and nine assists in 21 games played this season.
