Cory Sarich announced great news Friday.
The NHL defenceman will not have to undergo surgery, nor require a brace, after suffering a cycling accident this week.
Sarich, 35, is recovering in a Calgary hospital but could be cleared to return home as early as Friday. A Saskatoon native who makes his home in Calgary, Sarich tweeted out his health update:
Sarich’s agent, Tim Hodgson, put out a statement Wednesday saying that Sarich was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a motor vehicle in Invermere, B.C. At that point the extent of Sarich’s injuries were unknown and the player was in stable condition.
Sarich has spent a majority of his 15-year NHL career with the Calgary Flames and Tampa Bay Lightning. He suited up last season for Colorado, scoring 10 points in 54 games and helping the Avalanche make the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
He is now an unrestricted free agent.
