Ducks place Koivu on IR, activate Visnovsky

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Anaheim Ducks have activated defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky from injured reserve after a month-long absence with a broken finger.

The Ducks also placed centre Saku Koivu on injured reserve Wednesday night because of a lower-body injury.

Visnovsky was the NHL’s top-scoring defenceman last season with 18 goals and 50 assists, but the Slovak defenceman broke a finger on his right hand late in Anaheim’s loss to Nashville on Nov. 11. He missed 13 games, but his absence also allowed another injured finger on his left hand to heal.

Koivu was hurt in Anaheim’s loss at St. Louis last week, apparently aggravating his frequently injured groin. The Ducks haven’t set a timetable for his return.
