Flames call up 2012 first round pick Mark Jankowski

The Calgary Flames have recalled 2012 first round pick Mark Jankowski, the club announced Friday.

The move comes ahead of Friday evening’s matchup against the Boston Bruins, but the 22-year-old centreman will have to wait a little longer before making his NHL debut.

Jankowski has had a long road to the NHL since being drafted by the Flames 21st overall four years ago. The pick came as a surprise to many at the time, as the lanky St. Catharines, Ont., native was deemed far from an NHL-ready prospect.

The late-blooming prospect would go on to excel at Providence College with 43 goals and 67 assists for 110 points in 148 games, and signed his entry-level deal with Calgary shortly after.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound forward has continued that momentum in his first AHL season with the Flames’ affiliate in Stockton, currently leading the team in assists (9) and points (12) through 13 games.
