Former Kings coach John Stevens to join Stars coaching staff

Former Los Angeles Kings coach John Stevens will be joining the Dallas Stars coaching staff, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Stevens served as assistant coach with the Kings from 2010 to 2017 then was promoted to head coach before the 2017-18 season. He was let go by the Kings last November after only 13 games.

Before he was hired by the Kings, Stevens was head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers from 2006 to 2010.

As a player, Stevens was a defenceman for the Flyers and Hartford Whalers, appearing in 53 games.

Stevens and Stars head coach Jim Montgomery played together with the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms in the late 1990s.
