The Vegas Golden Knights revealed Calvin Pickard‘s new mask on Wednesday, after holding a competition to procure a design for the netminder.
The final result uses elements from several submissions, though Shawn Hickey was announced as the winner of the contest for a drawing of a medieval knight overlooking the Vegas Strip.
“I received so many great designs and submissions that I couldn’t pick just one,” Pickard told NHL.com. “My new Golden Knights mask incorporates elements from six different finalists, as well as a complete drawing from the grand prize winner.
“This was a fun and unique way to engage with the Golden Knights community.”
The mask also features a hand of playing cards spelling out “Picks” as well as the Golden Knights logo on top of the bucket.
Vegas took Pickard from the Colorado Avalanche in June’s NHL Expansion Draft, and the 25-year-old will likely back up Marc-Andre Fleury in the Golden Knights’ inaugural season.
Pickard is coming off a year in which he had a 2.98 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in 50 appearances with the Avalanche, before winning a silver medal backstopping Canada at the world championships.
