Gotta See It: Chimera’s busted nose

Jason Chimera was just doing his job.

The Washington Capitals forward lined up Brendan Smith and attempted to finish his check as the Red Wings defenceman moved the puck out of his own zone. Unfortunately for Chimera, his face absorbed the biggest blow on the play.

Smith’s helmet inadvertently met Chimera’s face, leaving the rugged winger with a bloody, and more than slightly off-kilter nose.

Chimera, of course, didn’t miss a shift. Capitals trainers just popped his beak back into place.

“They took him back, put it back in place and he came back,” Coach Barry Trotz said, via The Washington Post. “I thought he played a hell of a game. He was really skating and that’s the Jason Chimera I know. It was good to see him do that.”

Here’s a look at the seemingly harmless play.

Let’s see if Chimera nose better than to take a run at Smith in the future.
