Although the Toronto Maple Leafs have winger Leo Komarov listed as day-to-day, don’t expect him back in the lineup for at least a couple of weeks.
“So far, the Leafs have said he’s day-to-day, but I’m hearing it’s looking a lot more like two weeks is the initial timeframe,” Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston said during the Headlines segment on the Hockey Night in Canada.
Komarov was injured during Thursday’s 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres when teammate William Nylander collided with him midway through the second period.
Nylander pivoted and fell onto Komarov’s left leg as he started moving backwards, the impact causing the Finnish forward to drop to the ice in pain. Komarov needed help getting to the dressing and didn’t put much pressure on his left leg.
“There’s still some imaging to be done, and some tests,” Johnston added. “But the good news is this looks like a shorter-term injury. There were some people out there who thought it could be long term based on the initial hit.”
Komarov missed his first game of the season Saturday when the Leafs hosted the Montreal Canadiens. He has seven goals and 19 points in 71 games. The 31-year-old is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July.
