Maple Leafs without Bozak, Lupul, Matthias on road trip

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without a trio of key forwards for at least the start of their upcoming Western Conference road trip.

The team announced Monday that Tyler Bozak, Joffrey Lupul and Shawn Matthias will not travel with the team as the Maple Leafs prepare for a Tuesday game in Calgary against the Flames. They follow that up with games at Edmonton Thursday, Vancouver Saturday and Chicago next Monday before returning home to face the Rangers next Thursday.

Bozak left Saturday’s game against the Senators after taking a shot to the head from Mike Zibanejad. Lupul and Matthias were also banged up in that 6-1 loss in Ottawa. The exact timeline of each player’s injury is unknown at this time.

As a response to the injuries the team recalled forwards Mark Arcobello, Rich Clune and Josh Leivo from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

The Maple Leafs have lost five of the past seven games and are currently tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers for fewest points in the NHL.
