Maple Leafs working on new contract for Marlies coach Sheldon Keefe

Sheldon Keefe has excelled as head coach of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies and the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to reward him for his efforts.

According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, it appears the organization and coach are in agreement on a new contract.

“It’s safe to say he would be one of the AHL’s highest-paid coaches in history but it’s a contract that wouldn’t keep him from getting a job in the National Hockey League should teams come knocking,” Kypreos said Saturday during the Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada.

Keefe, 38, coached the Marlies to a Calder Cup in 2017-18. He joined the Marlies ahead of the 2015-16 season after two successful campaigns with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the OHL.
