Canadiens’ Beaulieu out rest of Senators series

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Nathan Beaulieu will the miss remainder of his team’s opening-round series against the Ottawa Senators with an upper-body injury, the team announced Tuesday.

Beaulieu was run over by Senators captain Erik Karlsson as he attempted to skate out of his zone in the second period of Game 2 Sunday.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Beaulieu will be out long-term since the series could end as soon as Wednesday when the Canadiens look to complete a clean sweep at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Head coach Michel Therrien told reporters 24-year-old Greg Pateryn will replace Beaulieu in Game 4. Pateryn was skating beside Alexei Emelin during Tuesday’s practice. Therrien also had the option of using veteran Sergei Gonchar, who has yet to suit up in the post-season.

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Beaulieu does not have a concussion.
