Oilers enter NHL weekend betting slate as road favourites

The Edmonton Oilers will be shooting for a fifth straight victory on Friday when they visit the Vancouver Canucks as -130 road favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Edmonton has surrendered just four total goals during its win streak and leads the Pacific Division with a 6-1-0 record going into Friday night’s Oilers vs. Canucks betting matchup at Rogers Arena.

The Canucks are mired in a three-game slide — including a 3-0 loss at home to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday — after opening the season with four wins. Vancouver has, however, held the upper hand in recent home dates with the Oilers. They’ve won seven of their last nine home matchups against the club, including a 4-3 win in last spring’s regular-season finale.

Meanwhile, the Senators continue their western swing on Friday, visiting the Calgary Flames as +110 underdogs.

Ottawa opened the campaign with a pair of one-goal victories over the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, but struggled to generate offence in blowout losses to the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning before settling down in their shutout win in Vancouver.

Calgary is perched as -130 chalk following a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, in goaltender Brian Elliott‘s triumphant return to his old home rink. Elliott has stopped a combined 54 of 57 shots in two straight victories, ending a personal three-game losing streak.

Calgary will need another big outing from their new starter when they face Ottawa, which has won six of eight against the Flames, according to the OddsShark NHL Database.

Canada’s oldest hockey rivalry is rekindled on Saturday night, when the Maple Leafs visit the Bell Centre for a date with the Canadiens. The youthful Leafs have regularly found ways to lose in the early going, but Toronto overcame a second-period deficit to claim a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Thursday while pegged as +100 home underdogs.

The Canadiens enter the weekend as the only NHL team undefeated in regulation this season following a 3-1 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday, and are unbeaten in 10 straight games against Toronto.

In other NHL betting action this weekend, the Winnipeg Jets hope to build off Thursday’s 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars when they take on the Colorado Avalanche on Friday as +130 road underdogs.

The New York Rangers look to pad their lead atop the Metropolitan Division standings when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday as -135 chalk before returning home to face the high-powered Lightning on Sunday.

Lastly, the Red Wings ride a six-game win streak into a Saturday night date with the Boston Bruins. Detroit claimed victory as a betting underdog in four of those victories, including a 2-1 shootout win over the Blues on Thursday.
