Oilers’ McDavid limps off ice after blocking shot; X-rays negative

This is not what the Edmonton Oilers ever want to see. Connor McDavid limped off the ice and went immediately to the locker room for X-rays after blocking a slap shot from Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jeff Petry slap shot with 2:31 remaining in what ended up being a 4-1 Oilers victory Saturday.

The good news is despite McDavid’s right foot being sore, Oilers head coach Todd McLellan told reporters at Rogers Place that the X-rays were negative the team expects him to play Wednesday against the Winnipeg Jets.

McDavid hasn’t missed a game since his rookie season in 2015-16 when sat out 37 games with a broken clavicle.

The reigning Hart Trophy winner now has 43 points in 36 games after registering a goal and an assist against the Canadiens. The Oilers, however, have only 36 points in the standings and sit in sixth place in the Pacific Division heading into the Christmas break.
