Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban has been fined once again by the NHL for diving/embellishment, the league announced Friday.
Subban was penalized $3,000 for his third offence of the season, which took place on March 12 during the second period of a game against the Ottawa Senators.
The 26-year-old was given his first citation after a Jan. 6 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was then fined $2,000 for a second incident that took place Jan. 29 against the New York Rangers.
Subban is the first player this season to receive a third diving/embellishment citation.
If he is flagged a fourth time it will not only cost him another $4,000, but it will cost Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien $2,000.
This discipline falls under NHL Rule 64, which was approved by the board of governors and NHL Players’ Association prior to the 2014-15 campaign in order to “bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties.”
