Minnesota Wild forward Eric Staal has been diagnosed with a concussion as a result of a scary collision during Saturday’s game, according to Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Staal was taken to hospital after crashing head-first into the end boards late in the second period of the Wild’s season-ending 4-3 overtime loss in Game 5 to the St. Louis Blues. Staal had a chance in close before he tripped over goaltender Jake Allen and slid hard into the boards.
Play was stopped with 6:07 remaining in the period. Staal remained down for several minutes before slowly getting to his feet. He was visibly dazed as he was helped to the dressing room.
The Wild announced he was released from hospital Saturday night.
Staal completed the first season of a three-year deal with the Wild. He had 28 goals and 65 points in 82 games.
