Robby Fabbri will be sticking with the St. Louis Blues for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old Fabbri became the latest teenager to be inducted full-time into the NHL Sunday, when general manager Doug Armstrong called him up to the front of the plane on a flight home from Nashville after the Blues shut out the Predators 4-0.
“He told me that they’re going to keep me for the year,” a giddy Fabbri relays to Darren Pang in a video posted on the Blues website.
“That’s just the beginning. I have to keep going. But it’s something I’ve been waiting for.”
Fabbri conducted the interview on the plane while getting objects playfully chucked at him from teammates.
The Mississauga, Ont., native has never lived away from home. He will be moving in with teammate Joel Edmundson.
Though he missed six games in October due to a concussion, Fabbri has roared bacon, scoring two goals and an an assist to go with a plus-5 rating in eight games.
“The guys are really fun here,” Fabbri said, after a Blues pillow smacked his face. “I couldn’t ask for a better group.”
A gold medallist for Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, Fabbri could have been sent back down to the Ontario Hockey League after his ninth game. When he plays his 10th NHL contest of the season, likely Thursday, his entry-level contract will officially kick in.
