It’s been 13 years since Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya suited up as teammates with the Colorado Avalanche, but before the two enter the Hockey Hall of Fame this fall, fans will get to see them skate together one more time.
Kariya and Selanne, who were also teammates for five seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, will play in the Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Classic at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto this November. It will give fans another chance to see them light it up the way they did when they were leading the Ducks’ offence in the 90s.
“The chemistry that we had, it was magical every night,” Selanne said on a conference call after the two were named to the Hall of Fame class of 2017.
“If I didn’t get the opportunity to play with him, I wouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame so I’m very thankful,” Kariya said on his conference call.
The game is a part of induction weekend, which will be capped off with Selanne, Kariya, Dave Andreychuk, Mark Recchi, Danielle Goyette, Clare Drake and Jeremy Jacobs being enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Legends Classic will feature the World Legends, led by captain Jari Kurri, take on the Mark Messier-led Canadian legends. Other players who will make an appearance include Recchi, Andreychuk, Igor Larionov, Larry Murphy, Scott Stevens and Wendel Clark.
