Senators-Bruins pile up 82 penalty minutes in 36 seconds

A game which already featured a low-bridge hit, a spear (both by Brad Marchand), and Zdeno Chara manhandling Mark Borowiecki, turned nasty in the final minute as the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators piled up the penalty minutes Tuesday night.

With 1:03 remaining, Landon Ferraro fought Max McCormick, in what was just a prelude of the fireworks to come.

A hit by Ottawa’s Dave Dziurzynski on Kevan Miller with just over 30 seconds remaining angered the Bruins as they started shoving the Senators forward in front of the Boston net.

Then Chris Neil and Adam McQuaid dropped the gloves, ending with Neil poking at McQuaid’s eye. This one was followed by Zac Rinaldo and Dziurzynski. Pretty soon everyone on the ice had partnered up, leading to various ejections and misconducts.

When it was all said and done, 82 minutes in penalties were handed out in just 36 seconds. All the misconducts robbed us of a chance to see a party penalty box.

These teams play twice more this season, with the next game scheduled for Jan. 9 on Hockey Night in Canada. The Bruins won the game 7-3.
