With Craig Anderson leaving the Ottawa Senators for personal reasons, the team went into Friday’s game against the Calgary Flames starting backup Andrew Hammond, with third-stringer Chris Driedger on the bench.
At some point in the first period, Hammond was injured, although it’s not clear yet what happened. He finished the period, but at the start of the second Driedger was in net and Hammond was not on the bench du to an lower-body injury.
Hammond faced four shots and allowed one goal before he left the game. Driedger, a 22-year-old taken in the third round (76th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, had a .912 save percentage in 39 AHL games last season. Prior to that, he played 40 games in the ECHL for the Evansville Icemen and posted eight wins with an .885 save percentage.
