Murray steps down as Senators GM, Dorion takes over

OTTAWA – Bryan Murray is stepping down as Ottawa Senators general manager and taking on an advisory role within the organization.

Murray, who has been battling cancer, will be replaced by assistant general manager Pierre Dorion.

Murray said he had been pondering the decision for the past month, but ultimately came to the decision to step down this past Wednesday.

He was originally hired as head coach of the Senators in 2004 and took over as general manager in June 2007 following the Senators only Stanley Cup final appearance.

Dorion becomes the eighth GM in franchise history.

He had spent the past three seasons as assistant general manager and has been with the organization since 2007.
