Stars’ Benn pokes fun at refs in Leafs-Penguins game after odd call

The Pittsburgh Penguins thought they had cut the Toronto Maple Leafs’ lead to 3-1 late in the second period Saturday night when Brian Dumoulin slid the puck by Frederik Andersen.

However, the goal did not count, as the Pens’ blueliner was assessed a goaltender interference penalty despite the fact he was pushed into the crease by Toronto defenceman Ron Hainsey. Moments later the Maple Leafs went up 4-0 after scoring a power-play goal, as Dumoulin watched from the box.

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn had the night off and was watching the game. Turns out he was one of many hockey fans baffled by the call.

The Maple Leafs, who ended up winning the game by a final score of 5-2, don’t play again until Wednesday when they host none other than Benn and the Stars.
