Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn was given a major penalty and a game misconduct Wednesday for hitting Arizona Coyotes defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson from behind.
The play happened just past the midway point of the second period as Ekman-Larsson was getting the puck in the offensive zone along the side boards. Benn appeared to have the defender in his tracks for a few moments before making the hit.
Ekman-Larsson stayed down for several minutes before eventually leaving the ice under his own power. He returned at the start of the third period.
