Wild’s Scandella to have hearing for hit

Minnesota Wild defenceman Marco Scandella will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday evening for his hit to the head of New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson.

Scandella received a two-minute penalty for an illegal check to the head on the play.

A suspension seems likely for Scandella, considering this is his second offence in less than two weeks. He was fined $2,755.38, the maximum amount allowable by the collective bargaining agreement, for a hit to the head of St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie on Nov. 29.

Scandella, 24, signed a five-year extension with the Wild earlier this season. In 24 games this season Scandella has five goals and 9 points.
