Winnipeg Jets to donate $100,000 to Fort McMurray relief

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets announced Friday that they are donating $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts in fire-ravaged Fort McMurray, Alta.

Wildfires have forced the evacuation of more than 80,000 residents. The Canadian Red Cross will facilitate care by providing shelter, food, accommodation and comfort.

“We are encouraging fans of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose to join us by also making a donation,” Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation chairman Mark Chipman said in a statement. “Funds collected through the Foundation for this fundraising effort will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.”

The National Hockey League, the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames said Thursday they will also each donate $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts.
