Zac Rinaldo, recently sent to the Providence Bruins of the AHL after being given a five-game suspension for his hit to the head of Tampa Bay’s Cedric Paquette, has apparently not learned his lesson.
In Friday’s game between the AHL Bruins and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Rinaldo caught defenceman Kane Lafranchise up high with a hit, and was given a match penalty for intent to injure.
Rinaldo was given the third NHL suspension of his career Tuesday, and was promptly put on waivers, which he cleared. The Bruins sent the troublesome forward to Providence.
NHL suspensions do not prevent a player from dressing in the American League, though Rinaldo would have to sit out five games if he was recalled to the NHL.
The 25-year-old has now been suspended from the AHL indefinitely after the hit on Lafranchise.
He has one more year on his contract, carrying a $850,000 cap hit.
