The Toronto Blue Jays are starting to spend some of their international free-agent bonus pool.
After missing out on Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, the Blue Jays have pivoted to sign Dominican shortstop Cristopher Polanco, Baseball America's Ben Badler reported on Monday.
Polanco is ranked as the 22nd-best international free agent in MLB.com's 2025 international prospect rankings.
The 17-year-old stands at five-foot-11 and hits from the left side. He is scouted as having a 60-grade hit tool and a 50-grade power tool.
Toronto also reportedly signed Dominican shortstop Juan Sanchez and Venezuelan shortstops Elaineiker Coronado and Kennew Blanco on Monday.
The team recently acquired $2 million in international signing bonus pool space in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians that also saw them add outfielder Myles Straw.
