Blue Jays’ Santiago Espinal to replace Jose Altuve in MLB All-Star Game

The Toronto Blue Jays announced Saturday that infielder Santiago Espinal will be heading to the MLB All-Star Game.

Espinal will replace Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve.

Altuve left Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with a leg injury after getting hit by a pitch.

Espinal will join fellow Blue Jays Alejandro Kirk and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who were voted as AL starters.

Pitcher Alek Manoah will also feature in the Midsummer Classic, which takes place Tuesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

George Springer was scheduled to play but will be replaced by Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager due to injury.
